Man Designs ‘Spaceship’-Style Sea Jet, Internet Amazed by Finished Result

A striking “futuristic” private sea jet that looks as if it belongs in a James Bond film has captivated users on TikTok.
A video of the Hyper-Sport Jet Capsule, one of the latest models of the several capsule-style boats offered by Italy’s Lazzarini Design Studio, was shared on the TikTok account @jetcapsule in August and has amassed 39.4 million views.
A spokesperson for Lazzarini Design Studio told Newsweek: “We wanted to design a spaceship-shaped vehicle with private jet functions, private jet for the water.”
The company said the capsule boat offers “a new futuristic projection for water transportation, a new water mobility.”
The designer of the Jet Capsule, Pierpaolo Lazzarini, told Newsweek that the boat offers “a very distinctive way of approaching maritime locations.”
It allows passengers to have more privacy, he said, explaining that “nobody can see us inside, but we can see anyone around us.”
The viral post comes as travel is expected to reach “record highs” this year, with global tourism spending forecast to hit $2 trillion, according to a December 2023 survey by Euromonitor International, the market research company.
The number of recreational boats in the country has hovered around 12 million since 2010, according to a 2023 report from the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics. In 2021, nearly 44,800 U.S.-flagged commercial vessels operated on the country’s waterways, marking a rise of 10.5 percent since 2010.
In a video showcasing the interior of the Hyper-Sport Jet Capsule, which was posted on the design company’s YouTube channel, Lazzarini said the boat has a “spaceship-inspired shape” with headlights in the front and additional lights on its rooftop for night vision.
Accommodating 10 passengers in addition to the pilot, the boat operates on a jet propulsion system and can reach a maximum speed of 39 knots.
According to the designer, the boat’s sliding rear door is made of forged carbon fiber, a lightweight material known for its strength that’s often used in high-performance vehicles, and weighs around 12 kilograms (around 26 pounds).
The boat comes with a sink, fridge, toilet, an air conditioning system, two side sofas and a “transformable bed option,” where the tables can be lowered to the floor to create space for a bed between the two sofas, the designer said.
The Jet Capsule boats can be customized, and “everything is tailor-made around the client’s requirements,” the company said.
It can be built to different lengths, starting from around 8 meters long (around 26 feet) and up to around 39 meters (around 128 feet). It has a width of around 3.54 meters (around 11.6 feet), which is twice that of other boats with similar lengths, and a height of around 2.3 meters (around 7.5 feet), the company said.
Some of the custom options include side windows that can be made “photochromic” to adjust the intensity of the light coming into the cabin and a custom-built sundeck on the rooftop.
One of the Jet Capsule’s main features is “being protected from external temperatures and weather conditions,” such as humidity, rain, sun and wind, the company said.
The Jet Capsule has CE certification, a certification mark that all boats for sale within the European Union must have to “ensure that boats are safe for the conditions they are likely to encounter,” says AGP Law, a law firm in Cyprus.
The design studio said the boat is also certified by the RINA, a classification company that operates on behalf of 122 flag authorities and is a founding member of the International Association of Classification Societies.
The Jet Capsule boats can be built in Italy within eight to 18 months and then shipped worldwide, the company said.
The 8-meter Jet Capsule boats are available from $285,000, with the Hyper-Sport model starting at $550,000, while the 10-meter Jet Capsule models are offered from $650,000.
